Stanley Tan Poh Leng founded Magazines Incorporated in 1978, and under his leadership the company became the largest media representation house in Southeast Asia. He is currently the executive director and chief executive officer of the Global Yellow Pages. During his career he has covered various sectors including media and publishing, property development and investments, and hotels and hotel management.  He is also active in the non-profit sector in Singapore, including as president of Beyond Social Services, an organisation dedicated to helping children and youths-at-risk break free from poverty, and as chairman of Opportunity International, chairman of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and the Community Foundation of Singapore. He is also vice-president of the MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Fund, a board member of the Alola Foundation in Timor Leste. Stanley Tan has been an honorary adviser to the Asia New Zealand Foundation since 2009.
