Tim Beal, whose latest book Crisis in Korea published by Pluto Press in London last year looks at the changes on the Korean peninsula and their implications for the world.
North Korea has had a transition, so far stable, from Kim Jong Il to his son Kim Jong Un.
South Korea has parliamentary and presidential elections this year. The current president, Lee Myung-bak, is losing popularity and his party has gone so far as to change its name. Whatever the new government in South Korea, it is certain that there will be a change of policy towards the North, moving back to engagement.
Meanwhile, there are elections in Russia, China, and the United States.
Change is on the agenda, but what will it mean?
