H.E. Mr Toshihisa Takata
H.E. Mr Toshihisa TAKATA has been the Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand since May 2015 (and is also accredited to the Cook Islands and Niue). He graduated in 1976 from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law; and in 1979 from the University of Oxford with a Diploma in Social Studies.
Ambassador Takata entered the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in 1976 following his graduation from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law. He has had a wide variety of MOFA postings both within Japan and overseas, including assignments while a Desk Officer to the UK, Sri Lanka, the EU and South Korea. In 2003 he became Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand. He was appointed Ambassador to Kenya (and several other African countries) in 2010, and since May 2015 has been Ambassador to New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Niue.
