HE Yongkyu Park has a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) and M.A. in International Relations (Tufts University). He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977 and became Consul, Korean Consulate General in Vancouver before being Counsellor at the Korean Embassy in Pakistan. Yongkyu Park then served as Director for Administrative Management (Office of Planning and Management), Director (Treaties Division, Treaties Bureau), Counsellor (Korean Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other International Organisations in Geneva) and Research Associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. More recent positions include Minister (Korean Embassy in the Netherlands and Korean Permanent Mission to the International Organisations in the Hague), Visiting Professor of Diplomacy at Sogang University, Ambassador for Diplomatic Archives, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Slovak Republic and Professor at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security. In 2000 he received the Service Merit Medal.
