About Our Speaker

Brigadier Muhammad Asghar was commissioned in the oldest regiment of Corps of Artillery of Pakistan on 6 September 1989. He has experience of “Art of War” as Major and attended Australian Command and Staff Course during 2003. He was responsible for human resources development and management in a higher organization in Pakistan and has the also worked as faculty member at Command and Staff College, Quetta. He has also served at the United Nations Mission in Liberia.
On successful completion of National Security and War Course from National Defence University in 2012, the Brigadier was posted to the Province of Khayber Pakhtunkhawa to command an artillery organization engaged in combating terrorists in connection with War on Terror. He commanded an infantry component while posted there. He gained valuable practical knowledge and experience of counter insurgency operations and the challenges involved in War on Terror. He actively pursued kinetic and non-kinetic prongs of counter terrorism strategy that produced meaningful results in his area of responsibility.
He assumed the responsibilities of Defence Adviser, Pakistan High Commission, resident in Canberra on 10 October 2013. His qualifications include:
a. MSc in Defence Management (from University of Canberra)

b. MSc – Art and Science of Warfare

c. MSc – Military Sciences

Currently he is pursuing M Phil in national security.
