David J. Keegan assumed office as Deputy Chief of Mission of American Embassy Wellington on 15 August, 2006.
Prior to serving in Wellington, Dr. Keegan was Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan. A career Foreign Service Officer, Dr. Keegan joined the Foreign Service in 1982. He has served abroad in Jamaica (1982-1984), Korea (1985-1987), Guangzhou, China (1988-1990), and Singapore (1994-1997). His assignments in the Department of State included the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs, Deputy Advisor on the Taiwan Coordination Staff, Congressional Liaison for the East Asia and Pacific Bureau, Special Advisor and Speech Writer for the Assistant Secretary of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and Advisor on the Taiwan Coordination Staff.
Dr. Keegan earned his B.A. from Holy Cross College and his Ph. D. in Chinese History from the University of California, Berkeley. He is married to Sally Lindfors and has two sons, Daniel and Matthew.
